A warm welcome to everyone, especially all the new students who have joined AHeadStart in the last month. The first term of school is now fully underway, with many students having their first NCEA Internal assessments in the next few weeks . My team and I would like to help you achieve the greatest success and wish you the very best. It is possible for everyone! Melanie
AHeadStart is now on Facebook. We have both a business page and an AHeadStart group to promote discussion between students. Parents are more welcome! If you are interested in either becoming a fan of AHeadStart Tuition, or joining the AHeadStart group, please follow these links: AHeadStart has launched a daily quiz question on Facebook. The answer will be posted the following day. First person with the correct answer for the daily question wins! Win a total of 5 quizzes and you'll receive a double-pass to Hoyts movies. Good luck! Today's question is: How many times does the average humans heart beat a day?
I'd love to share student achievements among our AHeadStart tutoring community. If you have achieved success lately, whether it is academic, sporting or cultural, please think about whether you are willing to share this success with others. I would love to hear about anything and everything, including school representation at interschool competitions. If you have some success to share, please tell me at your lesson or send me an email, and I will include it in the next newsletter. All achievement accepted for this column will win a free StudyPass Pack including an examination revision guide and essential course information (fold-out notes), in any mathematics or science subject you choose.

With the recent student Facebook group promoting anger against the new principal of Burnside High School, Mr Warwick Maguire, it is interesting to note that he was previously principal of Wanganui High School. Wanganui High School has a wealth of useful online resources for student, which can be downloaded free-of-charge. I highly recommend these. Please visit: http://www.wanganui-high.school.nz/students.php
Recently, I have found a fantastic website which provides an analysis of your learning style! Learning styles are the way in which we perceive and remember new information. There are seven different learning styles assessed in this questionnaire. By understanding your own personal styles, you can adapt the learning process and techniques you use. The following instructions take you to a website which is dedicated to helping you better understand learning styles, as well as providing an easy way to discover your own styles. 1. Go to: 2. The webpage is titled Learning Styles Inventory Login for existing Users. Click on start or continue with the questions. 3. Complete all the questions by selecting: 4. Once you have completed all 7 pages, press Submit. 5. Enter information into Your User Profile. 6. Once completed I will email you a list of study tips specifically suited to your preferred learning style.
Good luck to everyone for the rest of the term! See you at your lessons! Melanie and the AHeadStart Team
