Tutor News: Alex & Becky

AHeadStart has two new tutors this term: Alex and Becky.

Alex: Accounting & Economics

Hi, my name is Alex Smith and I am an Economics and Accounting tutor for AHeadStart. I was born in 1989 and lived in Nelson until 2007 when I moved to Christchurch for university. Coming from Nelson Im naturally an outdoorsy person and Ive been making the most of having so many good ski fields around by taking up snowboarding! Im currently in my fourth and final year studying Accounting, and I plan on carrying on to become Chartered. At this stage the area I wish to specialise in is Auditing.

I really enjoy Economics and Accounting and I hope my passion for the subjects can help motivate other students to carry on with them. Even if you dont carry on with them at a university level, the basic concepts and applications learnt can apply to real life and are useful outside of school. Economics and Accounting can seem a bit dry at first but with practice and a little help, Im sure youll enjoy them as much as I do!

Becky: Chemistry, Physics, Calculus & Statistics

Hi, my name is Becky and I am a tutor for AHeadStart Tuition. I am originally from Christchurch and moved down to Dunedin when I was five. I completed my primary and secondary schooling in Dunedin, where I attended Arthur Street School followed by St. Hilda's Collegiate School. During my time at St. Hilda's my interest in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Design grew.

I played soccer through my schooling years, and four of those years I played for St. Hilda's 1st XI where I have some of the best experience as working as part of a team and how persistence and encouragement are so powerful; which are reflected in how you play. I have also competed in powerlifting where I have represented Otago and New Zealand, and currently hold various records. Powerlifting is also a mentally challenging sport, as you have to have self confidence and determination to increase the amountyoulift.

When I finished secondary school I decided to move back to Christchurch to pursue an Engineering degree at Canterbury University, and I am currently in my second year studying Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

Learning Styles Analysis

Recently, I have found a fantastic website which provides an analysis of your learning style!

Learning styles are the way in which we perceive and remember new information. There are seven different learning styles assessed in this questionnaire. By understanding your own personal styles, you can adapt the learning process and techniques you use.

Please go to: http://www.aheadstart.co.nz/learning-styles-xidc65586.html

Good luck to everyone for the rest of the term! See you at your lessons!
