Aini

Hi! I’m Aini and I tutor Mathematics, Calculus, Science, and Geography at AHeadStart. I am currently a student at the University of Canterbury in my second professional year of a Bachelor of Engineering in Natural Resources Engineering.

Before moving to Christchurch for university I lived in Lower Hutt and went to Hutt Valley High School. In my years at Hutt Valley High I gained Merit and Excellence endorsements in all of the subjects I teach. I gained Merit endorsements in NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3; marginally missing out on excellence in Year 12 and 13 by a few credits. I gained the subject prize for Geography in Year 12 and 13.

Looking back at my time in high school, I learned more than I realised at the time. One of the biggest things I gained from those years was the importance of setting achievable goals. I also learned to not be hard on myself when things don’t go my way. Instead, I try to figure out what I could have done better.

In Year 13 I was a liaison student for year 9 students where my role was to help them through the transition from intermediate to high school and mentor them through their first year of high school. I also was involved in a variety of extracurricular activities throughout high school years including tennis, badminton, swimming, underwater hockey (the greatest sport ever) and service council. Scuba diving is also one of my favorite hobbies.
