Hi, I'm Olivia and I have been an English, History and German tutor for AHeadStart since 2017. I am currently in my third year at UC, studying towards a double degree in Law and History/Geography.
I graduated from Burnside High School in 2016 with NCEA Excellence endorsements in Levels 1, 2 and 3 and over 280 Excellence credits. During my time at Burnside, I received a number of academic awards, such as the Brigitte Murray Cup for First in English in Year 12, the History Cup for First in History in Year 13 and First Place in French and German for both Year 12 and 13. I also gained NZQA Scholarship English and History, and was offered the Victoria Vice-Chancellor's Excellence Scholarship and the UC Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship for 2017.
Alongside English and History, I am keen to tutor students in German, as it is a subject that I would love to help students do well in. In 2015, I spent four months on a student exchange in a tiny German village near the centre of Germany, where I passed most of the time eating sausages and drinking beer (don't worry, Germany's legal drinking age is 16). In the same year, I gained the Goethe B1 German and DELF B1 French Certificates. Catching up on missed work and internal assessments after my return to high school enabled me to become extremely familiar with the NCEA system- particularly with exactly what material, evidence and exam tricks are required for that highly sought-after Excellence grade.
Through my previous tutoring experience at both high school and assisting mostly primary school students at a private tutoring company, I have found that I really enjoy helping students get to grip with their schoolwork and achieve success in exams. I am patient, friendly, and more than happy to adapt my tutoring style to suit each student.
I look forward to helping students gain understanding and confidence in their studies at school!
