Olivia

Hi everyone, my name is Olivia Burney and I am ecstatic about becoming one of the many passionate tutors here at AHeadStart this year! I am in my first year at the University of Canterbury studying towards Bachelor of Commerce in Finance and Marketing. My subjects are Accounting, Biology, Calculus, Chemistry, Mathematics and Science. 

I am from the sunny Hawkes Bay, in the North Island, just graduating from Iona College in 2020. Throughout high school, in NCEA, I achieved to a fairly high level in subjects ranging from Biology and Chemistry to Calculus and Accounting to Design. I gained Level 1 and 2 with excellence endorsement and Level 3 with merit endorsement. My efforts were recognised at my high school prizegiving, where I received a Principal’s Award for Overall Academic Achievement in Year 13, the Dixon Cup and Speedy Cup for First in Subject - Level 3 Accounting and Business Excellence, and the Design Cup for First in Subject - Level 3 Design. 

I put my success in high school down to my hard work ethic, because as cheesy as it is, I believe with hard work you can achieve anything. You don’t have to be the smartest person in the room to achieve your goals in life and succeed.

Throughout my last two years of high school, I tutored junior high school students in Mathematics, Accounting and Science. As a tutor, I can give a diverse range of lesson plans to help students learn concepts in whatever way suits them best. In addition, I am friendly, patient, understanding, organised and hugely passionate about learning. 

In my spare time, I love to swim and dance, and do a bit of graphic design here and there. 

I know how tough high school can be and I am looking forward to helping you through it all, not just with achieving your NCEA goals but also helping with the stress and pressure that comes with high school.
