Megan

Hi, my name is Megan and I am a Physics, Calculus, Statistics, and Biology tutor. I have recently graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Physics. I am excited to continue my studies next year with an Honours in CAMS - Computationally Applied Mathematical Sciences, essentially Applied Math and Modelling. Starting postgrad gives me the flexibility to work when I want - leaving me free to do what I love, tutor!

I graduated high school in 2017 as Dux with an excellence endorsement in each level of NCEA, and several subject endorsements. I was determined to be heavily involved during high school. I took up leadership roles such as Academic Head, Financial Manager, and one of the main characters for Stage Challenge among Choir and volunteering at the local Astronomical Society. Astronomy was a massive part of my life, in year 13 this lead me to be selected for: the European Space Camp in Norway as one of two nationwide, SWAPA run by the Royal Astronomical Society NZ, and Elaine P. Snowden Astronomy School run by UC. And it still is, as I am currently a member of the RASNZ council. I understand what it is like to want to succeed academically while balancing many other extracurriculars.

In my spare time, I enjoy reading, cooking, and developing my fencing. Two friends and I also started a university club called the Students Space Association, part of a nation-wide network focused on inspiring interest in astronomy.

Since high school, I have done a mix of private, residence hall, and university tutoring. In 2020 I was employed as a tutor/lab demonstrator for several first-year university courses. This has shown me the importance of understanding, not just memorising key concepts for long-term learning. The best results come from being confident in your knowledge and I am willing to go that extra mile to ensure that. I look forward to helping you with your subjects this year!
