Hi, I’m Apoorva! I tutor Calculus, Chemistry, History and Physics with AHeadStart. Currently, I am in my first year at the University of Canterbury, studying Engineering with the addition of French as an elective.
In 2018, I graduated from Riccarton High as Head Girl, as well as the Proxime Accessit of my school. In addition, I was the recipient of the Institute of Physics Prize, the Michael Reid Memorial Prize for Excellence in History, the Riccarton Rotary Youth Trust Scholarship, as well as the UC Excellence Scholarship. I also gained Excellence endorsements in NCEA Level 1, 2 and 3.
Outside of academia, I am a volunteer at Unleashed, a weekly after school program for children. I’d like to say that I do it for the kids, but really I love volunteering because children are hilarious and a lot of fun to be around! In addition, I also have a cultivated passion for dance and am currently learning Advanced 2 Cecchetti Ballet. Apart from that, in my spare time I like to read, relax by painting or writing poetry, and I also really enjoy indulging in political thought, as I think it is important to be well-educated on such topics.
One of the main reasons why I applied for this job was because I knew I had a passion for learning, but also because I’m really energised by working with and meeting new people. I also know what it’s like to struggle at a subject, but having the right support helped me overcome my academic hurdles and I hope to help students in the same way. I want students to realise their potential, as that can have a huge, positive impact on their life.Go Back
