Matthew

Hello, I’m Matthew.

If you need a mathematics and/or physics tutor, then I’m your man.

I’m studying towards a BSc in Physics and Mathematics at the University of Canterbury. 2019 is my second year at UC, however I was over the moon when I found out I gained direct entrance into 2nd year courses and was able to skip the more boring “high school recap” courses that they teach in 1st year. I learnt from this that doing well in high school can move you on to better things faster.

My biggest dream has always been to become a Physicist. I basically fell in love with physics at a young age and haven’t stopped thinking about it since. My goals are to get a PhD at a top university and go on to do research worthy enough to be considered as a major contribution to science.

I choose to become a tutor at AHeadStart simply because I want to help people achieve as I did in high school, and because I believe in the saying “we rise by helping others.” In my situation I didn’t need tutoring, as I had a very supportive teacher/mentor who gave up time outside of class to help me as a tutor would. I understand that not everyone is lucky enough to have this support *Enter Matthew* So that’s why I’m here. I want to coach my tutees to achieve their academic goals, so they can leave high school with the knowledge they need to pursue their dreams.

Here’s a list of my academic achievements:

2017

In July of 2017 I was one of 5 New Zealand secondary school students to be selected by the Royal Society to attend a week long international science forum called Youth ANZAAS in Melbourne, Australia.

In 2016 I was one of 40 NZ secondary school students to be selected by the Royal Society to attend a week-long science forum in Wellington, New Zealand called Powering Potential.
