Alexandra L

Hi there! My name’s Alexandra and I’m in my second year at the University of Canterbury studying a double degree in a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts (History and Political Science).

I completed my final year at St Margaret’s College in 2018, achieving NCEA Levels 1-3 with Excellence endorsed. I also achieved New Zealand Scholarship in English, History and Classics, and gained an overall NZ Scholarship Award. I also gained subject Excellence endorsements in Level 1, 2 & 3 English and Classics, Level 1 & 2 French and History, as well as Merit endorsements in Level 1 & 2 Chemistry, Mathematics & Physics. In 2017, I won the Ministry of Education’s ‘Battle of Passchendaele Competition’, a digital history project, and was selected with 10 other students to travel to Belgium, France and the Netherlands to attend the NZ WW1 centenary commemorations.

Outside of study, you’ll find me playing instruments (piano, violin and alto saxophone) in bands and orchestras. I also love playing racquet sports, especially tennis and badminton. I enjoy participating in volunteering, church and community work. Combined with my love of history and the arts, I have a special interest in learning French, and love to travel when the opportunity arises! A passion for arthouse films means I can always manage to squeeze in a trip to the cinema, no matter how busy!

I believe everyone has the potential to excel once they find the key to their learning style. I’m really looking forward to tutoring students this year, and am convinced of the impact a good tutor can have on those who are struggling or in need of extension, having been on the other end myself! I really enjoy helping others to reach their academic potential with the aim of assisting them to become self-directed and confident in their learning.
