Jessica

Hi, my name is Jess and I am a Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry and Technology tutor. I am currently doing my third and final professional year in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Canterbury. As a result of being granted direct entry into second-year courses in my first year, I have a lighter loaded final year and would love to spend some of my free time helping students succeed.

I graduated from Burnside High School in 2016 with excellence endorsement in each level of NCEA and over 250 excellence credits. I have tutored NCEA since I graduated from high school and know the material thoroughly. I understand how to gain excellence, or whatever your personal academic goals are. I graduated high school with a platinum service award for my involvement in many leadership roles such as being an Academic Head, Debating Club Leader and Divisional Deputy Head Girl. As an Academic Head, I organised tutoring sessions, trained the Cantamath teams to first place, and coached debating. My proudest academic accomplishment was being selected as one of the 6 students nationwide to attend the Harry Messel International Science School, hosted at the University of Sydney while I was in year 12.

In my spare time, I play social netball and explore the outdoors. I have been training in Karate for a decade and got my black belt in 2016 and received a Senpai title the following year. I also enjoy playing the piano, which I started learning when I was 5.

During my time in school and university, I have always enjoyed helping my peers understand the material. I privately tutored throughout High School and have three years of tutoring experience with AHeadStart. I am patient and happy to adapt to teach students with any learning style. I look forward to helping future students gain confidence and enthusiasm in their subjects this year.
