Hello, my name is Jess and I am a Calculus, Statistics, Physics, Chemistry and Technology tutor for AHeadStart. I am currently doing my first professional year in Mechatronics Engineering at the University of Canterbury. As a result of being granted direct entry into second year Physics and Calculus last year I am also doing a few 300 level courses for my degree this year.
I graduated Burnside High School in 2016 with excellence endorsement in each level of NCEA and over 250 excellence credits. Having tutored NCEA since I graduated High School I know the material and how to gain excellence. I graduated High School with a platinum service award for my involvement in many leadership roles such as being an Academic Head, Debating Club Leader and Divisional Deputy Head Girl. As an Academic Head I organised many tutoring sessions, trained the year 9 Cantamath team to first place, and taught year 4-7's debating at Breens intermediate. My proudest academic accomplishment was being selected as one of the 6 students nationwide to attend the Harry Messel International Science School in 2015, hosted at the University of Sydney.
I love playing sports and exploring the outdoors. I have been training in Karate for nearly 10 years and got my black belt in 2016 then started teaching Karate and self defense at St Michael's and received a Senpai title after a year of teaching. I also enjoy music and have played piano since I was 5.
During my time in school and University I have always enjoyed helping my classmates understand the material. I privately tutored throughout High School and have a year tutoring experience with A Head Start. I am patient and happy to adapt to teach students with any learning style. I look forward to helping future students gain confidence and enthusiasm in their subjects this year.
