Hi, I'm Sam! I've tutored at AHeadStart for just under two years, and have thoroughly loved every second of it. I have recently returned home after studying on exchange in Vienna for just under five months.
I've lived in Christchurch my whole life, which included graduating Christchurch Boys' High School as a monitor and academic scholar. From years 11-13 I grew very accustomed to learning under the NCEA system, as well as developing good techniques to tackle assessments and examinations. I have also completed the IGCSE and A Level Cambridge exams with excellent grades. This allowed me to achieve Scholarships in both Calculus and Statistics, as well as gaining an excellence endorsement in all levels of NCEA.
I developed my passion for tutoring at high school. Here I experienced first hand the benefits of one on one academic assistance from friends, as well as the reward from helping others understand difficult concepts. From my experience individuals learn in very different ways, which is often unaddressed in classroom based learning. For that reason I think it's hugely important to individualize my tutoring style for each individual student based on how they learn most effectively.
At AHeadStart I tutor Mathematics, Calculus, Statistics, Economics, and Accounting at all NCEA levels. I can also tutor Calculus and Statistics at a scholarship level. I have tutored a wide variety of students, ranging from students aiming for achieved as they've missed a significant amount of school due to illness, to those aiming for excellence endorsements.
I have a very friendly and approachable personality. Outside of studies I am a huge basketball fan! I also enjoy watching rugby and cricket, as well as reading.
